Jorgund hovered in the air above both of the pirate vessels. None of us knew what had happened to Famine and the egg he stole from the White Whale. The God-Dragon let out a series of frustrated lightning breaths arcing into the clouds. Movement from the deck of The Fury could be seen from our location. They were bringing down their flag and running up the white flag of surrender. Joyous laughter traveled across the ranks of Morgan’s crew. Morgan, Alessisa, Tahn, Haeys, and I gathered at the helm.
“Well, it seems that your brothers know they are outmatched” Alessisa stated.
“Aye, now let’s see what these ones have to say about their actions,” Tahn said. “When is the last time you had contact with them Morgan?”
“It will be coming up on three years if I’m not mistaken,” Morgan replied. “Right when William, Rackham, and Bartholomew swore themselves to the Queen’s service. I told them I wouldn’t be caught dead working for anyone other than myself and never looked back.”
As the Kraken’s Beak pulled closer to The Fury they interlocked with ropes and planks. Balfore was already aboard with Jorgund submerged in the sea with only his large horned head sticking out of the water level with the deck of both ships.
“Well boys, if that’s the case I harbor no ill will to either of you. We’ve seen what the Queen and her associates are capable of doing, and a threat from her will hold most to her word. Being locked away in some dungeon is no way for a man of the sea to go.” Balefore said as he placed a hand on one of each of his son’s shoulders. Rackham was a tall muscular man with long flowing black hair and a clean shaven face. He had a two-handed greatsword tied to his back and a bright red overcoat. Bartholomew had lighter hair, close to a light blonde like mine. He had a long mustache that drooped down on both sides almost into a goatee without the chin. He had a rapier like his father. His overcoat was red like his Brother but adorned with more trim and jewels. It would seem he was the higher rank of the two. Both of them had the look of Balfore on their face. The family line of the Utestler was a strong one.
“You look exactly as you did the last time we saw you set sail,” Rackham said solemnly. “Where did you go for so long, how are you here now?” His questions were that of a son who’s hurt had left a lasting impression on his character and personality. As though every fiber of his being was based on the abandonment that he and his brothers faced at Balfore’s death.
“More importantly, where did you get that bloody dragon from!” Bartholomew interjected. “Look at the size of it! It looks as though he could carry our ship into the sky and drop us into The Maelstrom to never be seen again.” He spoke as someone of logic and sensibility. Jorgund could very easily do just that and seeing the God-Dragons in the flesh for the first time was always something that would strike awe.
“Both of you have excellent questions,” Balefore said calmly. “The four of us should talk, and get our heads together. That Crow just took a very powerful piece of this puzzle off to the Queen. I need to know everything about what you have been up to. I need to know what you know about The End of Days. Most importantly I need to know whose idea it was to take my ship. A stern look on his face as ever. Morgan, the youngest of Balefore’s sons looked to be his age. The other two looked as though they were five to ten years older than him. The respect they had for him though shown through, they listened as though they were but children and they walked into one of the cabins to talk. I tried to follow but Haeys and Tahn stopped me.
“That conversation is their’s to have, but we can still have one for ourselves” Haeys said as he pointed to Alessisa at the bow of the ship reaching her right hand to the nose of Jorgund, God-Dragon of the sea. He seemed so gentle for his size. He was humming a tune with her. The harmony was disrupted by our approach.
“WHY THANK YOU FOR THAT LITTLE ELF, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN KNOW BY MY LOVE OF SONG,” Jorgund said in a sing-song tune. “SO THESE ARE THE ONES THAT MORGUL SELECTED.” Looking us each over as though he was reading our very souls. “YES, QUITE GOOD I WOULD SAY. EVEN YOU FIT IN NICELY DWARF. EVEN WITHOUT THE FIRE OF UTHER, HIS LIGHT SHINES BRILLIANTLY WITHIN YOU. A GOOD THING OR THAT BOW WOULDN’T WORK FOR YOU.”
“The bow of Pestilence? What do you mean?” Tahn questioned as he held the bow out in front of himself.
“THAT IS A POWERFUL ARTIFACT IMBUED WITH ANCIENT MAGIC. THE PARLIAMENT CREATED IT AND IT’S SIBLINGS IN CELEST, THE CAPITAL CITY OF THE ELVES. THEY WERE GIFTED, ONE EACH TO THE FOUR STRONGEST WARRIORS OF THE ELVEN PEOPLE. NEGAN, HOWEVER, SAW TO THE CORRUPTION OF THEIR HEARTS AND TURNED THEM INTO THE CROWS. THE BOW YOU HAVE THERE WAS ONCE CALLED THE LOCUST. AN ARROW FIRED FROM IT CAN CREATE AN EXPLOSION OF ACID AND FIRE THAT CONSUMES ALL THAT IT TOUCHES, MUCH LIKE THE INSECT IT IS NAMED AFTER. IT CAN ONLY BE ATTUNED TO ONE PERSON AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE CHOSEN YOU AS IT’S NEW MASTER.”Jorgund explained.
“It sounds like a weapon of incredible power, why would the elves create something like this?” Alessisa asked.
“The gift of future sight and power of the elements that my parents passed on to me has shown me that the power of the four celestial weapons hold the power to protect the entire world from harm. They were created to guide us all into prosperity, but Negan’s dark ways turned them against our people and destroyed us all.” Haeys answered. It seems that the more he meditates the more he learns about just about everything. He has everything we need to know, just no idea how to get it out.
“YES, SO IT SEEMS…” Jorgund said with a pause. “IF I HAD TO GUESS, THOSE WEAPONS WILL BE BROUGHT TO BARE AGAINST THE ARMIES OF AKOR AND THE QUEEN. AS FOR YOU BOY.” his gaze shifting to me. “YOUR LIGHT WILL GUIDE US TO THE END OF THIS. I CAN SMELL IT ON YOU, YOU WILL EITHER DEFEAT NEGAN OR LOCK HIM BACK INTO THE NEGATIVE ENERGY PLANE AS UTHER DID BEFORE.” The reaffirmation of my goal felt like the forgiveness I was seeking, but it also felt like an ill omen.
“Jorgund, what do you know of me?” I questioned. “I am a child brought back from the dead twice, yet no one can tell me who I was or what I did before my first death. What, if anything do you know of my past?”
“CINREDI, YOUR QUESTIONS WILL GO UNANSWERED TODAY I FEAR FOR I KNOW OF NO TALES OF A CHILD HERO. I DO KNOW THAT YOU HAVE THE STRONGEST SOURCE OF UTHER’S LIGHT. IT SHINES AS BRIGHT AS THE SUN ON A SUMMER DAY AND ILLUMINATES THE HEARTS OF THOSE AROUND YOU. YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF UTHER IN THIS WORLD. A WORLD THAT HAS BEEN IN THE DARKNESS FOR FAR TO LONG.” Jorgund lamented. I will take solace in being the light in the dark. For now.
